Definition

What Is a Standard Page?

1,800 Characters

One standard page equals 1,800 characters including spaces. This is a widely used convention in academic and publishing services.

Historically Established

The standard page originates from the typewriter era and is still widely used in European academic and editorial contexts today.

Accurate Scope

Standard pages measure the actual text content fairly and objectively.

Format-Independent

Font size, typeface, and line spacing don't affect the count, standard pages measure pure text content only.

How-To

How to Count Characters in Your Document

Each major writing application shows character count in a slightly different location. Supported applications include:

  • Microsoft Word (Review → Word Count)
  • Google Docs (Tools → Word count or Ctrl+Shift+C)
  • LibreOffice Writer (Tools → Word Count)

Microsoft Word

Go to Review → Word Count. In the dialog, look for Characters (with spaces). Divide by 1,800 for your standard page count.

Google Docs

Go to Tools → Word count or press Ctrl+Shift+C. The dialog shows characters with spaces, the value you need.

LibreOffice Writer

Go to Tools → Word Count. Use the Characters (with spaces) value. You can also enable the status bar at the bottom for a permanent character count display.

Our scan processes all text in the uploaded file by default, including footnotes, reference lists, and appendices. If you want to exclude these sections, remove them before uploading. This way you only pay for the body text of your paper.

An A4 page depends heavily on layout: font size, line spacing, and margins all determine how much text fits. A standard page measures exactly 1,800 characters (including spaces), independent of any formatting. This makes it an objective, fair unit for calculating the actual text volume.

A bachelor's thesis of around 60 A4 pages (12pt font, 1.5 line spacing) typically contains 80 to 100 standard pages. Use the calculator above to get the exact number for your paper and estimate your scan price upfront.

Both scans cost $0.29 per standard page. If you order the Combo package (Plagiarism + AI), you save 33% and pay only $0.39 instead of $0.58 per standard page. The calculation is identical for both scan types: divide your character count by 1,800, then multiply by the price per page.

A master's thesis of around 100 A4 pages (12pt font, 1.5 line spacing) typically contains 130 to 160 standard pages. A PhD dissertation of 250 A4 pages can reach 300 to 400 standard pages. Use the slider above to estimate your exact cost before uploading.

Yes. The minimum charge is $0.90 per order, regardless of scan type. This applies when your document is fewer than 4 standard pages (under 7,200 characters). Short papers, abstracts, and cover letters fall under this minimum.

No. The calculation is purely based on character count and is language-neutral. Whether your paper is written in English, German, French, Spanish, or any other language, 1 standard page always equals 1,800 characters including spaces. Paste your character count from your word processor into the slider above to get your result.
